Here is a true Malibu SS Chevelle. This was an Alabama race car from what we are told. I did find an Alabama Historic Car plate inside the car. This cool classic car was for sale on eBay©, but it seems no one wanted to be serious about bidding on it.
This classic has been looked over on a hoist as pictured below. This car was lot driven. The pictured engine has been removed and sold. The first group of pictures is how it was. This classic Malibu Super Sport is currently having the floor pans replaced.
EXTERIOR AND BODY OF THIS PROJECT MALIBU SS:
This car's body has not been molested by 15 different bondo-slingers. When you tap gently with your fingertips on the left quarter, doors, and fenders you can tell it's just metal. Nice ringing sound, not dull thuds. Surprising for something this old. Some filler on right quarter ahead and after the rear wheel. Left quarter below lower body line there is patchable hole after the wheel. Both rear wheel openings were cut and folded in to fit large racing tires decades ago. Looks rough, but not rotted out! Roof appears rather undented. Driver side door has repairable outer skin rust, similar on the right door with some inside rust too. Fenders both have what look like cable yanking marks on front of wheel openings!?!? Hey Jimbo fetch me that cable an we'll loop it thru an pull 'er outta here????! Haven't a clue, but about the same bend to the fender on each side. Typically, the fenders have some lower rust as pictured. Front right floors has been cut out along with the rear floor under rear seat. Small holes in rear window channel bottom on right side as pictured. Deck lid exterior looks good, has a small deep ding on top center and inside edge has rust. Missing the rear window lower chrome pieces. Missing the plastic insert for the center of the grille and hood edge chrome as pictured. Letter E missing from rear as pictured. The rotten trunk floor has been removed and has a new 3 section floor installed already. Surprisingly the rear body mount to trunk floor brace on the left, the tailpan, the fuel tank braces and the fuel tank (holds gas fine) still in good shape. See pictures, the gas tank was staying in place with no trunk floor because all the braces are still good! Look at the trunk weatherstrip channels! Very nice for a 43 year old car! Frame is in very good condition and for the most part is still smooth and has black paint on it. Inner fender wells are nice as pictured. Core support has battery tray welded. Low beam headlamps work and so does the left rear tail light.
INTERIOR OF THIS PROJECT MALIBU SS:
The only place this car actually says Chevelle is on the dashboard bezel! Original worn left side panels front and rear. No right side panels, but have both right door inside chrome strips. No headliner. Visors held together with rusted paper clips. No rear seat. No carpet. Decent bucket seats. Unsure if correct for the car. Certainly the color is different as this was a blue on blue car. Dash cluster kind of rough, odometer looks like it was overheated! Original shifter is loose from the car and has the original cable. Has console bracket still on the center floor as the hump was not cut out. The large chrome console front section is loose as well. Driver's side door will not let you out from the inside. All glass except rear window is accounted for. Dashboard lights and gauges seem to have no life at all.
CHASSIS OF THIS PROJECT MALIBU SS:
Inspection on hoist reveals the front end still needs a right outer tie rod end and an idler arm. Both are very bad. The rest looks OK at this time. The upper control arm shaft and bushing kits, the upper ball joints, the stabilizer links and the front coil springs are new with no road miles. Needs a master cylinder as it leaks onto the floor as pictured. Power steering pump and brackets do not exist. One power steering hose/line, one missing. No front shock absorbers! 12 bolt rear end, one-wheel peel.
This low-mileage car is sold in as-is condition!
Here is where the current NADA© value of this Super Sport can be found.
2009 Repairs Of The 1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS:
Work done, but no photos for 2009 yet...
Wherever the sections of rusted floor were removed, the frame rails exposed have been needle-scaled of rust. Then the rails were painted with 2 coats of Rust-O-Leum© Rusty Metal Primer©. Two coats of satin black top coat it.
